About the project

The ED5GE Developer Community project, led by RISE, aims to strengthen Sweden’s capacity to develop the digital solutions of the future. By combining 5G with edge computing, large volumes of data can be processed close to their source with minimal latency. This creates opportunities for new solutions in areas such as drones, transport, industry, public safety and agriculture.

An important part of the project is making the technology more accessible to developers and providing opportunities to develop and test new solutions across four test environments. These focus on the circular economy, public safety, traffic and road conditions, and autonomous vehicles and sustainable agriculture. In Skellefteå, the main focus is on drone applications.

The project is also establishing a digital network where developers, researchers, businesses and the public sector can collaborate and share knowledge.

ED5GE’s four test environments are funded through the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF2 Digital).
